Buying Tips and Information

  • Always Buy a Powered Hub

    • A powered hubs can always be used as port powered device by removing the power supply cable

  • Quality products have good warranties

  • USB Hubs do NOT supply additional USB bandwidth

    • If you require additional bandwidth a PCI/USB add-on is required NOT A HUB

  • Powered Hubs can and often do correct USB power problems with some USB Host Controllers

  • Hubs do NOT resolve improperly configured or non-functioning USB Host Controller issues

As you can see from the chart, far more USB device types are NOT suitable for hubs than are. Devices with X require an upgrade that provides additional bandwidth.   A USB/PCI card or PCMCIA/USB Adapter is only device that will supply the necessary bandwidth.
